A CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES

A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole: A hugely overweight thirty-something “scholar” who lives with his mother in New Orleans is forced to get a series of jobs, which he inevitably gets fired from, due to his laziness and raging disgust with the modern world, which has forgotten the virtues of the medieval philosophy. Prominent themes include: scholasticism, hot dogs, “moorish dignity,” farting.

First Sentence:
“A green hunting cap squeezed the top of the fleshy balloon of a head.”
