Set on one average day in Dublin, June 16, 1904—this “novel” follows the wanderings of Leopold Bloom, an advertising man in his late thirties, who is distantly haunted by the suicide of his father, the death of his infant son 11 years ago, and his wife's infidelity. Like the Odyssey, our hero takes an epic/ordinary journey, through the city, before coming home.
First Sentence:
“Stately, plump Buck Mulligan came from the stairhead, bearing a bowl of lather on which a mirror and a razor lay crossed.”
