Mourners Below by James Purdy: Novel about a teenager named Duane Bledsoe who lives with his father in a small Mid-West town during the Korean War. One day they receive news that Duane's brothers have been killed in the war, blown up with “nothing to bury except some dog tags and scraps of clothes.” As time passes the ghosts of the brothers begin to appear to Duane at night, commanding him to do things.
