The most endearing and recognizably human literary character of all time sacrifices everything—money, her husband, respectability, security, her own son—to have a relationship with a handsome, charming, and totally fake military officer named Vronsky. Too much to sum up in 420 characters. Probably the best novel ever written.
First Sentence:
“All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.”
