THE BOOK OF DISQUIET
The Book of Disquiet by Fernando Pessoa: Sometimes called “the most beautiful diary ever written” the book is a day to day account of the life of a lonely accounting clerk who lives alone named Bernardo Soares, one of Pessoa's 72 different pseudonyms. The book wonders aloud if “freedom is the possibility of isolation” and questions how important other people are in finding real meaning in one's own life.
Walking on these streets, until the night falls, my life feels to me like the life they [poems] have. By day they're full of meaningless activity; by night, they're full of meaningless lack of it. By day I am nothing, and by night I am I. There is no difference between me and these streets, save they being streets and I a soul, which perhaps is irrelevant when we consider the essence of things.

Every noble work is bound to face problems and obstacles. It is important to check your goal and motivation thoroughly. One should be very truthful, honest and reasonable. One's actions should be good for others and for oneself as well. Once a positive goal is chosen, you should decide to pursue it all the way to the end. Even if it is not realised, at least there will be no regret.

Dreams of a Dark Warrior: Book Review
Dreams of a Dark Warrior by Kresley Cole
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Book Blurb
From #1 New York Times bestseller Kresley Cole comes this gripping tale of a battle-maddenend warrior driven by revenge and the Valkyrie temptress who haunts his dreams.
My Thoughts
This book gets a 4 star rating for entertainment value. I read it in 2.5 days and that for me is fast because not only am I not a fast reader like that but I have so much happing that reading is really a squeeze but one I opened this book I made sure I found the time. I love it when writers of this genre stretch their imagination to bring something different and thrilling to the table but still make it effortlessly believable, and this is what Kresley Cole does so well in Dreams of a dark warrior.
The story begins with a daughter of a god who is shut out of the "heavenly realm" Valhalla - oh I should mention that the moment you mention vikings in fiction, I am totally lost. I have loved stories about them since I was a little girl. Anyway, the girl, Reginleit a Valkyrie (aka maiden warrior)She falls for a mortal I Aiden, A North-man and also a Berserker - mortal with the spirit of a bear)or rather the mortal falls for her but as you can imagine, fate is against them from the beginning. It is a real adventure seeing all the different supernatural characters playing their part in this novel. You have every paranormal figure imagined featured here, from vampires to witches to demons. You name it, its there.
I don't want to say much more or I'll give it away. If you enjoy paranormal fantasy then this is a must read for you, note it for your 101 fantasy challenge.
What fantasy novel have you found gripping lately, why would you recommend it?

A nobler history than pillared piles,
Or the eternal pyramids.

I have never been able to think of the day as one of mourning; I have never quite been able to feel that half-masted flags were appropriate on Decoration Day. I have rather felt that the flag should be at the peak, because those whose dying we commemorate rejoiced in seeing it where their valor placed it. We honor them in a joyous, thankful, triumphant commemoration of what they did. - Benjamin Harrison
Cover them over with beautiful flowers,
Deck them with garlands, those brothers of ours,
Lying so silent by night and by day
Sleeping the years of their manhood away.
Give them the meed they have won in the past;
Give them the honors their future forcast;
Give them the chaplets they won in the strife;
Give them the laurels they lost with their life.
- Will Carleton

Of Nature's kind, fostering care,
Are blooming, - our heroes are sleeping, -
And peace broods perennial there.
- John H. Jewett
These heroes are dead. They died for liberty - they died for us. They are at rest. They sleep in the land they made free, under the flag they rendered stainless, under the solemn pines, the sad hemlocks, the tearful willows, and the embracing vines. They sleep beneath the shadows of the clouds, careless alike of sunshine or of storm, each in the windowless Place of Rest. Earth may run red with other wars - they are at peace. In the midst of battle, in the roar of conflict, they found the serenity of death. I have one sentiment for soldiers living and dead: cheers for the living; tears for the dead. - Robert G. Ingersoll
Their silent wounds have speech
More eloquent than men;
Their tones can deeper reach

Laurels and roses on their graves to-day,
Lilies and laurels over them we lay,
And violets o'er each unforgotten head.
- Richard Hovey
But fame is theirs - and future days
On pillar'd brass shall tell their praise;
Shall tell - when cold neglect is dead -
"These for their country fought and bled."
- Philip Freneau
Let no vandalism of avarice or neglect, no ravages of time, testify to the present or to the coming generations, that we have forgotten, as a people, the cost of a free and undivided Republic. - John A. Logan
Your silent tents of green
We deck with fragrant flowers;
Yours has the suffering been,
The memory shall be ours.

Spirit, that made those heroes dare
To die, and leave their children free,
Bid Time and Nature gently spare
The shaft we raise to them and thee.

When hero bosoms yield their breath!

But once the flower of such a death.

The Wall
On a drizzly D.C. morning, in the middle of July,
My brother brought me downtown to the Mall;
Past the watchful eyes of Lincoln, 'neath a weeping summer sky,
We crossed the street to the little green and visited The Wall.
I remember I was nervous then, I guess a little scared,
'Cause I wasn't sure how I'd react at all;
To see the names of the servicemen who'd been recorded there:
Who'd heard the final roll call and assembled at The Wall.
Someone might stoop to leave a rose, a letter, or a poem;
A message to a young man loved and lost,
To show they still remember those who never made it home:
Who built The Wall so long and tall, and paid the bitter cost.
And every name's a father or a husband or a son,
Or a daughter or a brother or a cousin to someone;
Or a name might be a classmate or a friend you may recall:
There's nearly sixty thousand fallen names still waiting at The Wall.
As I watched the lines of people that walked by in slow parade,
I read a different story in each face;
And I couldn't help but wonder at this pilgrimage we'd made,
And what common bond, if any, might have brought us to this place.
There were tourists, and the curious, and some veterans who came,
Still others who sought an answer to it all;
But the only thing I'm sure of is: we left not quite the same,
With our memories alive and well, and waiting at The Wall. - Tim Murphy
We must be prepared to make heroic sacrifices for the cause of peace that we make ungrudgingly for the cause of war. There is no task that is more important or closer to my heart. - Albert Einstein
Four things support the world:
the learning of the wise,
the justice of the great,
the prayers of the good,
and the valor of the brave.
- Muhammad
True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost. - Arthur Ashe
Heroism is latent in every human soul - However humble or unknown, they (the veterans) have renounced what are accounted pleasures and cheerfully undertaken all the self-denials - privations, toils, dangers, sufferings, sicknesses, mutilations, life. - Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain
Brave men are all vertebrates; they have their softness on the surface and their toughness in the middle. - G. K. Chesterton
True bravery is shown by performing without witness what one might be capable of doing before all the world. - François de la Rochefoucauld
Valor grows by daring, fear by holding back. - Publilius Syrus
The legacy of heroes is the memory of a great name and the inheritance of a great example. - Benjamin Disraeli
How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes! - Maya Angelou
Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty. - President John F. Kennedy

JESUS' SON
Jesus' Son by Denis Johnson: Connected short stories about an unnamed heroin addict named “fuckhead” who drifts around the country, getting in and out of trouble.
Down the hall came the wife. She was glorious, burning. She didn't yet know that her husband was dead. We knew. That's what gave her such power over us. ...The doctor took her into a room with a desk at the end of the hall and from under the closed door a slab of brilliance radiated as if, by some stupendous process, diamonds were being incinerated in there. What a pair of lungs! She shrieked as I imagined an eagle would shriek. It felt wonderful to be alive to hear it! I've gone looking for that feeling everywhere.

A man's friendships are one of the best measures of his worth.

A friend is someone you can be alone with and have nothing to do and not be able to think of anything to say and be comfortable in the silence.

Like Lil B, Harmony Korine is another person who makes things that you either love intensely or think is the dumbest shit in the world. A lot of the artists that I admire the most (R Crumb, David Lynch, Bjork, George Condo, James Purdy, Jean Michel Basquiat, Marnie Stern, Miranda July, Jonathan Richman, Animal Collective, DJ Screw) tend to be that way. To summarize: I am not terribly offended if you think that what I make is the dumbest shit in the world.
Beautiful Love Poem !
A loving heart, a gentle smile, a warm and tender touch, We give many things in life but nothing means as much.
A little inspiration when someone loses hope, a kind word of encouragement when they no longer seem to cope.
A simple phrase, "I love you" when no one else is there, taking hold onto a hand in a little heartfelt prayer.
Love is never silent, it has so much to say, And it is

SELECTED TALES AND SKETCHES BY NATHANIEL HAWTHORNE
Selected Tales and Sketches by Nathaniel Hawthorne: Short Stories: A minister covers his face in a black veil and swears to keep it on forever. A young farmboy travels to the big city, its dark streets lit by moonlight and the red lights of torches. Young Goodman Brown takes a walk through the woods. A man goes in search of “the unpardonable sin.”
“There was the black veil swathed round Mr. Hooper's forehead, and concealing every feature above his placid mouth, on which, at times, they could perceive the glimmering of a melancholy smile. But that piece of crape, to their imagination, seemed to hang down before his heart, the symbol of a fearful secret between him and them.”

Emo Picture
Not many people know when love really starts... More than a friend, but not quite lovers. A delicate relationship like this changes gradually once it is noticed, and keeps on blossoming, Just like the changing seasons.
You were always there for me, and that’s all I needed. Just you. For some reason, I didn’t feel sad or broken up, it just didn’t seem real. But slowly I realized it was real - that you were gone. And little by little, I slowly felt something inside me go numb.
I'm not Superman. So I can't say anything big like I'll protect everyone on Earth. I'm not a modest guy who will say it's enough if I can protect as many people as my two hands can handle either. I want to protect... a mountain-load of people
At that moment the cloud of darkness was torn apart by countless arrows of crimson light. It almost looked like RAIN.
Someday my memories will fade...and her voice, her actions, I might forget them as well, but I will always remember that I loved khareen.

I'm so Worthless for her love
Maybe this is not what she used to dream before
The man she used to love at all
I am not perfect maybe but this is not the way proven that she's wrong
This is my fault- and its all my fault
I didn't mean to hurt her much
I dont wanna see her crying and all alone
This is not also what i wish for her
At first all i wanted for her is to feel the best moment ever
But i was wrong-i break my promise-
Maybe i shoudnt need to say a promises to her
She said " stop making apologize"
But i don't follow her either i continue saying sorry
I know she has the right to get mad and feel angry to me
Because i am so much a hard headed type of a person
and yes,i admit it, and i know it's a big deal
But what else can i do- i'd love her so much
I'm so confused...I mean, I want to let go...I want to let go of all this pain, but I'm afraid I'll go insane...she may come back, I have some hope, but with everything else, how can I cope. I want to let go...I'm going to let go, but if I wait and see, will she come back to me?

Why Can’t You Just Believe?
Remember how we used to be
Remember how we’d talk openly
But all that’s been changed now
I feel so lost, so empty inside
Oh, what should I do?
VERSE 2:
I never thought it’ll end like this
I never thought I will say this to you
I so want to hold back
And I still want to give you a chance
Because I love you
CHORUS 1:
Why can’t you just believe what I say?
Why don’t you just believe how I feel?
You’re driving me insane
With the questions you ask
How can I make you understand?
Why can’t you just believe what I say?
Why don’t you just believe how I feel?
Even time after time
You still doubt what’s the truth
And what am I supposed to do?
Why can’t you just believe?
Repeat Verse 2, Chorus 1 minus last line
BRIDGE:
I thought that we could
Give it another try
But I was so wrong
You hurt me even more
Don’t come crawling back, I don’t want
To see you for the rest of my life
(I) mean it this time
Why can’t you just believe?
CHORUS 2:
Oh, I just can’t believe I’m still here
Oh, I just don’t believe what you say
This will be the last time
That I’d be fooled by you
I won’t have mercy anymore
Oh, this love that I had
Just wasn’t meant to be
I had to let you go
Since you didn’t believe
You just can’t seem to change your ways
Why can’t you just believe?
Remember how we’d talk openly
But all that’s been changed now
I feel so lost, so empty inside
Oh, what should I do?

Headache
My head hurts. Everyone goes to me I don't know what to say...
Everyone goes to me I don't know what to say, everyone can cry to me and I'm just fading away...the world is going crazy and turning against me. I think I'm about to cry......
I can't be true, someone will find out that all of my emotions all falling apart...I wonder if the world would be better off w/o me. I wouldn't shed a tear and no one would break my heart....
I can't find a way out of here, I think I'm about to crawl out of my life....
I have lots of heart aches and I'm crying everynite. You don't even really kno me bccuz I'm always losing the fight...
Why does the world turn from me, I thought I was doing rite ...?
This time is confusing, someone take me away. My life is not easy, you don't even kno my name......
Too bad you can't figure out my last wish, my emotions inside and my life is not straight..
I can't get away by your own motions. I guess I didn't realize it, till finally I got it now ...I can't make since nemore...?
I Just Started To Write When I Was Mad/Sad
It’s just something I did about my life. It might make no sense to you but whatever…
This is my life
My family is f**ked up my grandfathers gone
My mom beat me and then my brother joined in
I have nothing to live for
Friends they would cry but just find a new friend
I desperately tried to kill my-self lots
I wish I would have not even lived
I don’t know what my real problem is but right now as
I write this I cry for I am dead inside and I don’t know why!
For all I care I might even kill my self soon
I get into sh*t with my friends and family pay for
I just wish.. Just wish...

Crying Like Never Before
052411
No where to run
No where to hide
I grab the blade as I sit alone
I drag the blade across my skin
It starts to bleed
Bleeding like a waterfall
I cut not because I want to die
I cut to release the hurt inside
I self harm to help me be that little bit better
I sit alone to do these things cause it’s safer
I feel so alone
I feel so sad
I don’t want to die
I don’t want to cry
I don’t want to feel this way
I have learnt to fake my smile
The smile they all know is that I pretend
I try to hide my laugh
Except I cant it feels too good
I want to be happy like every one else in this world
I want to feel safe every where
I am lost between worlds
The world of death
Where all is dark,
Everything is dying,
All is depressed
There is no smile
No light to see
The clouds are grey
And it’ always raining
The people walking around
They are not alive
They are dead
There is blood every where you look
Everything is black with red
The colors of hell
Maybe this is Hell
And the other world being bright
Full of life, laughter, and happiness
Nothing is dark all has color
Every where you go
Love is all around
Family and friends having so much fun
No tears at all
No death, no pain,
The clouds are white and fluffy
The sun shines nicely through them
Those are the worlds
The worlds I am between
My dream is unknown
My dream was once death
Now I don’t know
The hurt inside has got me lost
For my mind is screaming at me
I’m so afraid to care about someone
I’m so afraid to care about someone
I know it seems like I’m this strong boy who can get through everything
But inside, I’m very fragile…
I’ve had so many things thrown at me and each one has only made a crack
What I’m afraid of…is shattering

"
---------------------------------------
" lagi mo nalang akong pinagiintay-
lagi nalang ako naghihintay at naiiwanan dito sa labas-
sabihin mo nga-kelan mo ba ako papapasukin jan sa puso mo?"
--------------------------------------------------
"Nung isang araw sabi mo me ginagawa ka-
Kahapon naman sabi mo umalis ka-
tapos ngayon sasabihin mo nasa puso na kita.
"
----------------------------------------------
"Bakit kapag nagiisa ka-ako ang naiisip mo-
pero kapag nasa harap mo na sila
limot mo na ako-
sabihin mo
ganyan ba ako mabalewala sa buhay mo?"
-----------------------------------------------------
di mo man lang naramdaman ngumiti."
--------------------------------------------------------
101 Fantasy Reading Challenge (Perpetual)
I've been very weary of joining reading challenges because it means you have to have the time to commit to reading and that for me is a challenge on its own. All that being said when I saw a fantasy oriented challenge, well all my resolve kinda left me. I found this one on Darlene's blog terribly tempting and so I thought if I put it on my blog you may also be tempted to join me in this madness. Then I might not feel so "whatthehellamIgettingmyselfinto".
This is the list that was originally compiled by Bella (A Girl Reads a Book) and Jo (Ink & Paper). They held a mammoth poll inviting readers to nominate their favorite fantasy books. The list is compiled of all the books nominated and voted for (813 total) in order by number of votes. The top 101 are in italics. For a pdf version of this list, click HERE. For a pdf of this list in alphabetical order, click HERE.
To sign up for the challenge, click HERE and don't forget to take the fantasy badge on the sidebar.
(The numbers to the right of the titles indicate how many votes each title received. A zero means that the book was nominated, but did not receive any votes)
