Origin of the Valentine’s Day

Saint Valentinus was a Roman priest of the 3rd century during the reign of Emperor Claudius II. Emperor Claudius II motivated men not to marry or have any intimacy with women. He believed that men without acquaintance of women are better soldiers and can serve him better. So, he announced marriage as an illegal institution for his own selfish needs. Saint Valentinus intervened with the evil proceedings of the emperor and spread the message of love amongst men and women. People believe that marriage without love has no roots, while love without marriage has not fruits. Saint Valentinus organized marriage ceremonies secretly. This enraged the Claudius II, and he ordered the killing of this great saint. So Valentine’s Day is celebrated to commemorate the noble deeds of Saint Valentinus and augment love and passion.

The day is related to saints and angels, love and peace and everything cool, serene and good. The angel is sometimes thought to be Cupid, sometimes the angel of love. This is the angel of union which is associated with love and romance. The ancient Romans and the Christians celebrated Valentine’s Day from time immemorial.
