THE METAMORPHOSIS

The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka: A salesman wakes up one morning and discovers that he has turned into a gigantic bug during the night, and that he is late for work. Because he is lying on his curved insect back, it is nearly impossible for him to get out of his bed, while “his numerous legs, which were pitifully thin compared to the rest of his bulk, waved helplessly before his eyes.” The story goes on from there.

First Sentence:
“As Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams, he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect.”
