THE METAMORPHOSES

The Metamorphoses by Ovid: Written in Rome in 8 AD. An epic poem divided into fifteen books describing the history of the world from its creation to the deification of Julius Caesar. Stories include King Midas, Daedalus, Icarus, Hercules, the Trojan War, Pygmalion, and Orpheus. Ovid often pokes fun at Gods and Man alike, who are frequently made fools of by their own irrational lusts and passions.

My soul is wrought to sing of forms transformed to bodies new and strange! Immortal Gods inspire my heart, for ye have changed yourselves and all things you have changed! Oh lead my song in smooth and measured strains, from olden days when earth began to this completed time...
