FARENHEIT 451

Set in a future where everyone spends their free time watching gigantic tv screens, talking with anonymous “friends” in chatter rooms, eating brain-numbing prescription pills, and traveling everwhere with electronic earplugs in their ears, listening to advertisements. Books are outlawed—which is fine because no one wants them anyway—and instead of putting out fires, firemen burn books.

First Sentence:
“It was a pleasure to burn.”
